1982年，在云南大学地球物理系获理学学士学位；1991年，在南京大学大气科学系获理学博士学位。

研究领域

大气运动千变万化。大气遵从动量守恒、质量守恒、能量守恒等基本物理定律。大气动力学就是用数学物理方法来研究与天气气候现象相联系的各种大气系统中的风场、气压场、温度场的结构，形成机理以及它们的演变规律。从流体动力不稳定的观点来说，大气中的各种天气和气候系统可以看成是叠加在基本流动上的小扰动的不稳定而发展而来。例如，大气中的强风暴和对流的发生发展就与大气层结不稳定、对流不稳定或对称不稳定密切相关；而大气中的行星波动和气旋反气旋系统的发生发展就与正压不稳定、斜压不稳定等紧密相连。研究大气中各种系统产生的不稳定机理，它们发生发展过程中扰动和基流间的能量转换，是流体动力不稳定理论研究的重要内容。
