1989年在中国科学院大连化学物理研究所获博士学位,1989年至1990年在英国伯明翰大学做访问学者,回国后,历任大连化学物理研究所研究组副组长、组长、室主任、副所长、党委书记等职务,曾兼任国家催化工程技术研究中心主任,2007年2月至2017年2月任大连化学物理研究所所长。2016年12月任中国科学院副院长、党组成员
