1963年毕业于武汉大学化学系。\r
1985年曾获日本政府学术振兴协会奖学金(JSPS)赴大阪大学研究一年多。\r
1993年晋升为武汉大学教授。\r
2011年当选中国科学院院士

"""""长期致力于纤维素、甲壳素、淀粉、海藻酸钠、大豆蛋白质和真菌多糖的结构、分子尺寸、链构象以及天然高分子基新材料性能和功能研究。她们开创了一种崭新的低温溶解法,发现NaOH/尿素水溶液冷却到-12℃后可迅速溶解纤维素,提出低温下大分子与溶剂自组装形成新的氢键配体导致溶解的新机理,并实现难溶性纤维素、甲壳素甚至聚苯胺低温溶解"
