NanbertZhongisatenuredfacultymembercurrentlyheadingtheDevelopmentalGeneticsLaboratoryattheNewYorkStateInstituteforBasicResearchinDevelopmentalDisabilities.HehasbeenlicensedbytheNewYorkStateDepartmentofHealthasaDirectorinchargeoftheMolecularNeurogeneticDiagnosticLaboratoryintheNewYorkStateClinicalSpecialtyLaboratories(NYS_SCL)since1998,inadditiontobeanAssistantDirectorofNYS_SCL.
ProfessorZhonghasbeenanactivememberinvolvedinpromotingglobalhealth.HewasthememberofTechnicalPanelistofthe“BornTooSoon,AGlobalReportonActionCall,”publishedbytheWHO-MOD-SaveChildren-PMNCH(2012)andofAdvisoryGroupinthereportofWHO/UNICEFGlobalNewbornActionPlan(2014).HewasoneofthepartnersintheMarchofDimesGlobalNetworkforMaternalandInfantHealth,aswellasintheGenTeeprojectofEuropean7th-FrameProgram.HeisthecurrentpresidentfortheglobalPretermBirthInternationalCollaborative(www.prebicglobal.org).

HewasthefounderChairmanoftheDepartmentofMedicalGeneticsofPekingUniversityHealthScienceCenterin2004andthefounderDirectorofPekingUniversityCenterofMedicalGeneticsin2005.Duringtheperiodofhisleadership,hedevelopedaninternationalexchangeprogrambetweenthePekingUniversityandtheNIH/NICHD,whichwastheonlyofficialexchangeprogrambetweenChinaandNIH/NICHD.In2015,hedevelopedanUS-ChinaResearchCenterforTranslationalMedicineinDevelopmentalDisabilitiesinGuangzhou,China.
